of the U.S. Embassy hosted a reception for Emeagwali at his Jack Hill residence,
St. Andrew. Mr. Smyth greeted guests at the door and escorted them to the
cocktail area on the balcony overlooking the majestic lights of the city.
There was a buzz of activity at the balcony which was crowded with guests,
media photographers and waitresses. Present were the Nigerian High
Commissioner, Florentina Ukonga, and ambassadors from numerous countries.

- 6:00 p.m. Featured in "Profile," a half-hour human interest programme which features
successful people in various fields who have largely achieved against the odds.
It is an inspirational, motivational interview programme hosted by an inquisitive,
probing and controversial host, Ian Boyne.

organized by HEART. The first of three student presentations to take place in
Montego Bay, Mandeville and Kingston. These are for students interested in a computer career
or who just want to meet and hear Emeagwali speak. The age range is 15-25. The class size will be 50-100.
- Spend the night in Alcan House in Mandeville. A historic, agricultural and residential
town. Scenic mountain drives, hiking and interactions with the
people. Alcan Houses are owned by ALumunium of CANada.
A friend of Lloyd Vermont will serve as our host. Mandeville has a Web site.

gregarious Igbo lady married to a Jamaican).

Learn about Jamaica's African heritage at the African Museum located at Devon House.
King’s House (residence of the Governor-General) and Jamaica House (residence of the
Prime Minister) are within walking distance. Bob Marley Museum is 10 blocks away.

2:30 p.m. Taped TV interview "PROFILE" with host Ian Boyne. Interview was aired the following Sunday. Dozens of Jamaicans that later saw me in the streets
recognized me from the PROFILE interview. I talked about African contributions to science and technology, the role of education and technology in bridging the digital divide and alleviating
poverty in Africa.

Swam and had breakfast with Dale at Hilton Kingston Hotel. Lunch with three dozen Nigerians
at the residence of the Nigerian High Commissioner. Photo sessions.
Left the High Commissioner's residence at about 3:00 p.m. and drove
in Lloyd Vermont's car to spend the night at Sandals Royal Caribbean (#77)
in Montego Bay. Dale Enjoyed the ride. We stopped by the road side for some coconut water.
