During the early to mid 80's my family and I moved to wrk in Nigeria. We were assigned to work to work in Kaduna at the Federal Govt.College and the Govt. Tech. College in Milali, Kaduna. We also wrote for three national newspapers [Concord, New Nigeria, Democrat] on a weekly basis. My spouse and I wrote on issues of Development, Health, Nutrition and the Medicinal value of food. Our public service announcement proposal was, without our permission, used as the format for the "War Against Indicipline". It really hurt to be ignored and abused because we were American Blacks. We recognized that Nigerian's treated each othr poorly and knew we were a "tribe" of our own an would be treated eve worse. After completion of our contracts we decided to return to the land of our citizenship via slavery (U.S.A.). As much as I hate the self hatred that Nigerians have for themselves,we wanted to some day return and estalish a textile printing business to train, make and sell printed products to the world. My husband has been working for the State of California, making tons of money and savings and earning awards that put California in the forefront in thearea of textile design and production. He dreams and want to do this in Africa. I do not encourage him because we last I was in Nigeria and frustracted Nigerian secretary to a diplomat told me...."go homeyou are a econd class citizen in your own country and you are eating our food". I was so hurt and devestated by such wickedness. I did nothing to deserve such comments of evil from this woman's mouth. In fact I constantly wrote articles that let Nigerians know that they had everything for self-sufficiency. They needed to stop with the harmful skin bleaching, stop using international money to import jerry-curl kits, Nigerians to get back to natural foods and stop eating Maggi cubes which cause cancer and ulcers in their beautiful African people. Instead Nigerians woul believe a white man efore beieving me. I tested this theory and found that the most retarded white skin person would be believed and accepted before me the most educated and well spoken person. I want to liv in a Black nation and give and help educate in the area of my expertise. Where would you uggest we go to live in Africa? We want peace and acceptance. I better send and continue at a later date. Just research who I am |

I experienced worse at the hands of Black Americans when I came to the US in the late '70's as a student, after 2 years in Brussels, Belgium. As a Nigerian, I regret the behavior of a few Nigerians towards you, but I am very proud of your contribution to the Nation during your stay. I would hope that you consider the positive effects of your work at the Colleges, your newspaper articles and your work that formed the basis of 'War Against Indiscipline'. The influence of your work in Nigeria may be more significant to the Nigerian polity than you could now imagine. Many Nigerians live their entire lives without contributing anything close to what you accomplished during your stay in Nigeria. The influence of these pieces of work far exceed any insensitive remarks expressed by a few ignorant Nigerians. What is so encourgaging about your comment is that inspite of your unpleasant experience in Nigeria, you are still determined to give back to Africa in terms of technology transfer. Technology Transfer is one avenue that I believe that Africa can minimize the technology gap between the western world and the so called developing countries. Now that Nigeria has returned to democracy albeit a shaky one, the climate as I experienced it during a 1999 visit to Nigeria after the Presidential election and just before the democratic take-over, was very promising, and based on current observations, very encouraging to technology transfer. I hope you would reconsider and encourage your husband in his textile initiative for Africa, and I am hoping that he would pick Nigeria. I would be honored to work with you to make your collective dream a reality in Nigeria. I would therefore suggest that you give Nigeria a second look. From my own experience growing up in the Southwestern Nigeria, we felt a certain kind of kinship with Black Americans visitng Nigeria. We saw them as descendants of our 'stolen cousins' returning home. Anyone in doubt ought to visit Badagry (about 45 miles west of Lagos) and relics of the slave trade. In the South, people would still fight and argue with you, but as a family member, not as a 'second class citizen'. So please come back home; we will welcome your entire family to Southern Nigeria with open arms. Who knows? We may even be distant relatives! Won't that be nice? Best wishes, Lee |

I was very pleased to here that you even chose Nigeria because we are not even a first choice for alot of people not just our families of the diasporia but I beg you to give Nigeria another chance; that person was just ignorant and what we call 'bush'( not civilised) and uneducated I seriously feel your pain and would love to unify all my people for our betterment. I'm so ashamed to see that you having had to go through all the that mess in your life time or your families lives in American history would chose to come to Africa to help out a disgracefully slow moving society which has all the potential but down to greed and thoughtlessness and mismanagement and even poisonous manipulation of minds by ignorant leaders has run the country near enoguh below ground. From the bottom of my heart I thank you and hope you get in touch with me. I can trace my family tree as far back to freed slaves from Brazil and possibly in the west indies so I dread to think what they might have had to go through on their resettlement as well so I really can feel your pain. But for real please give Nigeria another go as large majority of you our coisins can trace a lineage to that area.peace and love Sis |

Posted At 16:49:27 10/13/2002 exactly, there are ignorant people everywhere and it is always easily one gets to generalise things no matter how educated you are or civilised for that matter, one always tend to fall to defend that which he or she personally likes, am I not right. Like in the case of black americans that are in a position to give aid or whatever to the africans is hindered by som many factors like the entire generation gaps and break of knowledge who their real ancestors are and yet you cannot go to a country with an attitude that I am now coming to give you aid as if to show off or proof something, either you do business strickly because of buisness or if you want to help then why go further the sea, those who wants and needs help (the africans) must already be there in america and will be ready to receive your help. If you just go to africa to feel yourself better or decalring how big man your father is in America then what are you expecting people to do, to bow down before you and lick your shoes out of gratefulness, for God sake they have bigger multimillionaires in Nigeria than in America, educated and big men as well, so why do you think you can go there to help anybody, why not face the truth, if you go there to give aid but you expect some eyeservice or bottom licking in turn then I wouldn't anymore call it aid but you are just going there to make yourself feel better, to claim the respect you perhaps not receiving in your own country. I'm so sorry if I'm sounding nasty to you, but I like to tell the truth to peoples face, I as well like the truth been told to my face and don't mind if you do that. However, that if anything is childish for you to even come here on this message board to as if I was about to give the dog a bone but since he barked at me I'm no more going to give it, so are you revenging on the whole slavery issue on the ones thatwere skipped out of it, I think they have their own sufferings to do in Africa and you have no reason to be bitter to them or to go there to show off or humilitae people or try to force them to behave in a certain way because you got your own money by behaving that way yourself, the person you met has her own opinions and is not afraid to state them to you no matter how rich and civilised or educated you find yourself to be as American, the money you possess does not make you to be "right" as you saw it yourself, and respect is a reciprocal thing, when in the country be in the way of the country and study the place and learn what is expected don't go there with big attitude that here am I now coming to help you poor people, ok this went little offline here but this are my own sincere thought without any unnecessary bottom licking becuase you are American and because you are educated and because you have money and you daddy is a BIIIIIIIIIIIG MAN IN TOWN |
