Kwanzaa (Quansa) is the African-American holiday corresponding to the Igbo New Yam Festival. It is held from December 26th through January 1st.
Passing the Unity Cup. A small amount of water from the unity cup is pour on the ground to honor our ancestors.
The first day of Kwanzaa is known as Umoja. Umoja (unity) encourages us to strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation and race. Only the black candle is lit on the first day. At the end of Umoja celebration, we all shouted "Harambee!!!!!!" [Let's pull together].
