WHY VISIT YOUR COLLEGE

While the Internet has helped bring us together we have been unable to make real human contact. A face-to-face conversation will provide a richer experience and a greater emotional feedback and intimacy. For this reason and to enrich your educational experience, your Student Activities Board will sponsor a visit from noted scholars to your campus.

Emeagwali addresses a wide range of issues ranging from racism in academia to digital divide; from the scientific contributions of African-Americans to future trends in technology, population growth and environment; and from globalization to how Third World nations can take advantage of emerging information technologies.

Emeagwali has spoken on technological trends that will have dramatic impacts on Africa and African-American community. His presentations have helped audiences understand how to prepare for a rapidly changing world.

WORKING WITH YOUR PROGRAMMING COMMITTEE

Do you want Philip Emeagwali to spend a day with you and other students? Seek out the Lecture Chairperson (or "the person in charge") in your college and explain to them how you learned about Emeagwali and why he should be invited to your college. If they express an interest, tell them to contact us at 443-850-0850 or speaker@emeagwali.com or http://emeagwali.com. You should e-mail us with the name, telephone number and e-mail address of your Student Activities Director.

The Programming Committee selects programming and have up to $10 million --- the "fees" portion of your "tuition and fees" --- designated to bring speakers to campus, especially those that can inspire and educate students and share the secrets of their success. Since your Student Activities Board wants to bring in speakers that students will come out to see, your filling out the paper work and suggesting Emeagwali as a speaker will be appreciated by them.

Also, don't forget that some departments have an annual budget of up to $100,000 for Distinguished Lecturer Series. In some colleges, the fund is distributed to various student association. Therefore, it may be practical for various student groups to share expenses by co-sponsoring an outside speaker.

The sponsoring campus association should print materials from this website, http://emeagwali.com, and suggest Emeagwali's visit to the staff member in charge of lectures or special events.

Emeagwali has been invited to speak schools such as Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. Unfortunately, none of these students were aware that they could receive funding from Student Activities.

Again, you have prepaid for Emeagwali's visit! Recognized student bodies could easily request for funds from the Lecture Chairperson, Student Activities Director or Programming Committee. The best way to get this funding released is by working with recognized university associations such as

  1. Black History Month Committee
  2. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Committee
  3. Black Student Union
  4. African (Caribbean, Nigerian, etc) Student Association
  5. National Society of Black Engineers (local chapter)
  6. Association for Computing Machinery (local chapter)
  7. Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (local chapter)
  8. Convocation (Graduation) Committee
  9. Any recognized campus association
